Trade-off and Hydropower Development: Case Studies from Central Lao PDR

These reports were produced as part of the Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF) Mekong Project 2, Assessing the Value of Water.

The overall goals of the project were to assess the value of the various uses of water and to estimate the costs and benefits associated with different water management strategies. In particular, the project aimed to (1) quantitatively assess the value of water resources and water bodies to local livelihoods and to (2) analyze the linkages between human impacts on water resources (in this case, the development of water storage infrastructure (WSI) for hydropower generation purposes) and how the resulting changes impact local values and livelihoods that are derived from the water resource.

Parallel studies were conducted in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam.
