Greater Mekong Subregion Countries – 5 – 13 February, 2015: Biochar Project Begins with Rapid Tour of GMS Countries

ICEM’s Biochar team has kicked off the project with a tour of the region’s six participating countries to perform the project’s rapid fire assessment of biochar potential in the GMS.

The key objectives of the trip were to obtain information on:

  • potential source locations of biomass and waste, e.g. crop residues or animal manure; and
  • suitable areas for biochar application, e.g. suitable soil conditions, agronomic system

Initial meetings with government representatives and experts from various agencies went favourably. As relations within the project develop, experts and government representatives will engage in participatory mapping exercises to better identify biochar hotspots.
