Project Description
This initiative formed part of the Danish Indonesia Environmental Sector Programme and was designed to assist Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment (KHL) in applying Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) within environmental planning processes. The project emphasized institutional strengthening through practical SEA applications, development of technical guidance, and extraction of early lessons learned from national capacity development in SEA.
Objectives, Activities and Results
The project aimed to build SEA capacity by implementing pilot activities, preparing work plans for conducting SEAs, and developing user-friendly guidance tailored to various planning contexts in Indonesia. A key component was the provision of SEA expertise to support the creation of national guidance documents, including the integration of climate change considerations into SEA processes. Additionally, the project evaluated and synthesized insights from the first three years of SEA capacity building in the country, contributing to more effective and climate-resilient environmental planning.
