Building Healthier Cities with Nature – Technical Papers on Urban Resilience

As part of our work to support resilient, inclusive, and livable cities across Asia, ICEM has produced a series of technical papers showcasing the role of biodiversity as essential urban infrastructure. These papers explore how nature strengthens climate adaptation and mitigation, improves public health and community wellbeing, and enhances flood and drought management in cities.

The series includes:

  • Biodiversity & Wellbeing in Urban Areas – How biodiverse green spaces lower stress, boost cognitive development, and improve mental and physical health, and why equitable access is essential. To read the paper, click here.

  • Waterbirds and Urban Wetlands – The ecological importance of urban wetlands, with waterbirds as ecosystem engineers and bioindicators of wetland health. To read the paper, click here.

  • Water Quality, Biodiversity and Water in Cities – How biodiversity improves the performance of rain gardens, wetlands, and green roofs in managing water quality and quantity. To read the paper, click here.

  • Biodiverse Cities – Why biodiverse, connected, and well-managed green spaces deliver far greater benefits for air quality, food security, and disaster risk reduction. To read the paper, click here.
