National Industrial Pollution Sources Survey

Project Description

The National Industrial Pollution Strategy (NIPS) in Vietnam marked the country’s most comprehensive assessment of pollution in the manufacturing sector. The study examined the structural composition, projected growth, and economic challenges facing Vietnam’s industry while evaluating environmental performance across sub-sectors and provinces. Using SEA methodology, the project estimated pollution emissions based on future industry expansion and analyzed the environmental implications at national, economic triangle, and provincial levels. The project also reviewed Vietnam’s broader economic and policy context to assess how industrial development trends influence pollution.

Objectives, Activities and Results

The study aimed to evaluate the environmental impacts of industrial growth and provide strategic recommendations for reducing pollution. Key activities included analyzing past and current emissions, projecting future pollution loads, and mapping high-risk areas. It assessed government responses—policies, institutions, tools, and financial resources—and identified gaps in information and capacity. The study concluded with recommendations to enhance industrial environmental performance, filling data gaps, and strengthening institutional responses. The findings provided a critical foundation for future environmental governance and informed policy reforms aimed at sustainable industrial development in Vietnam.
