Project Context
Cambodia’s aquaculture sector is expanding rapidly, driven by growing domestic demand and export opportunities. The Fisheries Administration (FiA), under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, is working to scale up successful aquaculture practices while addressing critical environmental, disease, and governance challenges, including pollution, disease surveillance, and reliance on unsustainable inputs, which constrain the sector’s long-term viability and access to international markets.
Objectives
Under the Programme for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in the Fisheries Sector: Aquaculture Component (CaPFish Aquaculture), funded by AFD, FiA is developing a national database to consolidate aquaculture production data, environmental control information, disease surveillance, hatchery records, and value chain data into a single integrated system. ICEM was engaged to finalise the database architecture, update and operationalise the system, and build FiA’s capacity to manage and use it as a routine governance tool, including ensuring future integration with the broader Fisheries Information Management System (FIMS) being developed by MAFF.
