Enhancing Environmental Sustainability through Inclusive, Integrated Solutions – Nature Solutions Finance Hub

Project Background:

The Nature Solutions Finance Hub (NSFH) was launched at COP 28 as part of ADB’s commitment to scaling up Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across Asia and the Pacific.  The NSFH is catalyzing finance to support nature-based climate actions and biodiversity conservation.  It is developing innovative solutions to address the intertwined crises of nature and climate. The NSF Hub’s goal is to increase investments in NbS across the Asia Pacific region by implementing NbS and innovative financing demonstration projects for replication. It is doing this through a partnership with technical conservation organisations along with concessional fund sources to work together according to an agreed NbS strategy and roadmap of activities. The Hub TA includes support in NbS policy and capacity-building in target countries to drive measurable impacts in biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. The NSFH aims to develop signature NbS projects that are capable of catalyzing at least $5 billion in investment, with a minimum of 15% from the private sector.

Project Objectives

Through the involvement of Dr Jeremy Carew-Reid, an Environmental Specialist, ICEM supports establishing and operationalizing the NSFH. Dr Carew-Reid’s role includes:

  • Developing the NbS/Biodiversity framework and eligibility criteria to guide project selection and financing.
  • Conducting country-level enabling environment assessments to identify policy reforms that facilitate NbS investment.
  • Supporting pipeline development by assessing and identifying viable NbS projects in collaboration with ADB sector teams and NSFH partners.
  • Providing technical support and quality assurance to ensure projects align with best practices and sustainability principles.
  • Assisting in the establishment and governance of the NSFH, including fund management and secretariat functions.
  • Delivering knowledge and communication products to enhance ADB’s broader engagement on NbS financing.

By combining NbS technical expertise with innovative financing strategies, ICEM is supporting ADB’s efforts to accelerate investment in nature-based solutions and strengthen climate resilience across the region.
