River Basin Management Project

The Community-based River Basin Management (CRBM) is a project implemented by the Khammouane Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment (PoNRE) and The Asia Foundation (TAF).

The project location covers three villages in Xebangfai district (Hadkhamhieng, Nyangkham, and Napork villages), and six villages in Mahaxai district (Dang, Nakyo, Phonesaad, Phowa, Kengsawang, Mahaxai villages), Khammouane province with the total population of 11,020 people (3710 in total, including 1817 females in Xe Bang Fai District and 7310 in total, including 3633 females in Mahaxai District).

The project goal is to support the Lao PDR government’s national socio-economic development plan through capacity building so that government staff and communities can understand and use integrated water resources management principles to successfully protect and manage the Xe Bang Fai River basin.

As part of the CRBM project, ICEM provided the following services:

  1. Training on Nature-based solutions for river basin management
  2. Wetland Assessment in Mahaxai District
  3. Water balance assessment for each identified wetland
  4. Conceptual design of wetland
  5. Adapting the wetland designs to the site map
