Project Description
Deploying nature-based solutions (NBS) as specific measures to address agroecosystem degradation and associated drivers and generate environmental benefits at multiple scales
Client: FAO | Duration: December 2020 – May 2021 | Location: India, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam
About: There is significant potential for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to address agroecosystem degradation in agricultural landscapes in Asia. Approaches span a number of existing concepts and practices including agroecology, bioengineering and Climate-Smart Agriculture. These measures aim to systematically improve ecosystem functioning, enhance livelihoods and generate environmental benefits at multiple scales.
This FAO-funded project focuses on applying NbS in selected locations in India, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Specific tasks include the following:
- A diagnostic analysis report including baseline and trend analysis of agroecosystem degradation, their drivers and evaluation of the wider agricultural system in the target project areas
- Identification of a range of suitable NbS to address the issues identified in the diagnostic analysis report
- In partnership with FAO country design teams, supporting the design of a pilot project on NbS to improve groundwater management in Cambodia and Vietnam
