Mekong Delta Climate Change MDCC Forum

Project Description
The Mekong Delta Climate Change (MDCC) Forum was initiated as a preparatory activity for the AusAID/ADB Mekong Delta Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Study, with support from AusAID and the World Bank. The forum responded to the urgent need for comprehensive regional planning and enhanced institutional capacity to address climate change in the Mekong Delta—one of Vietnam’s most vulnerable regions. At the time, there was a clear gap in regional and local strategies to deal with climate impacts, and limited understanding of how to integrate climate science into development planning.

Objectives, Activities and Results
The MDCC Forum aimed to raise awareness, build institutional capacity, and foster collaboration among key stakeholders—government officials, researchers, planners, and international organizations. Its three main objectives were to consult with stakeholders across governance levels, share the study’s design and methodology, and establish institutional relationships essential for the success of the broader climate adaptation project. The two-day high-level forum successfully laid the groundwork for long-term cooperation and knowledge-sharing, thereby strengthening institutional commitment to climate-responsive planning in the Mekong Delta.
